Just days ago, in Addis Ababa, during the 2025 Africans Celebrate event organized in partnership with Bustline Media UK, Ambassador Lancelot Oduwa Imasuen received the prestigious Diamond Recognition Award for his outstanding contributions to the growth and global recognition of African cinema.
The colourful ceremony, held in the Ethiopian capital, brought together a distinguished audience, including ambassadors from several African countries such as Nigeria and Botswana, senior government officials from Ethiopia, ministers from across the continent, and representatives of the European Union. The award was formally presented to Imasuen by EU delegates in recognition of his three decades of dedication to storytelling through film.
Still basking in the euphoria of the Diamond Recognition Award, Lancelot, who returned to Nigeria on Sunday, November 9, 2025, received yet another honour, this time from the African Movie Academy Awards (AMAA). The organisers acknowledged him as one of the pillars of African stories, celebrating his consistency, creativity, and long-standing impact in shaping the African movie industry.
Barely a day later, on November 10, 2025, in Abuja, the nation’s capital, Nigeria’s longest-running film festival, the Abuja International Film Festival (AIFF), joined in honouring the prolific filmmaker. Lancelot received the festival’s Special Recognition Award for his immense contributions to the industry and his 30 years of continuous excellence behind the camera. The celebration featured an acting masterclass jointly organised by the Benin Film Academy and the multiple award-winning actor and coach, Benjamin Olaye, who delivered a powerful session dedicated to Lancelot’s legacy and influence.
At the Abuja event, Imasuen inspired young and upcoming filmmakers by sharing his humble beginnings, displaying his awards, and encouraging them to remain resilient in pursuit of their dreams. His recognition at AIFF was accepted on his behalf by Mr. Emmanuel Eyaba, President of the Directors Guild of Nigeria and National Public Relations Officer, who also serves as the Festival Director of the Lancelot Imasuen International Student Film Festival.
The celebrations continued on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, in Benin City, where Lancelot held a heartfelt roundtable session with the Edo State Chapter of the Association of Movie Producers (AMP). The event drew a large crowd of industry stakeholders and enthusiasts, further underscoring the influence and admiration he commands in the Nigerian film community.
