Iran says it has launched attacks against US military positions in the United Arab Emirates and Jordan in response to an American strike on Iranian military targets on Larak Island in the Strait of Hormuz.
Iranian state media reported that the Iranian Army used drones to target a US military base in the UAE. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) also said it launched a combined missile and drone attack against American bases in Jordan.
The reported strikes came after Iran accused the United States of attacking Larak Island, saying the operation resulted in the deaths and injuries of Iranian military personnel and civilians.
The IRGC condemned the US action as an act of aggression and warned that those responsible would face consequences.
According to Iranian state media, the IRGC carried out the missile-and-drone operation against US positions in Jordan, while the Iranian Army separately launched drones at a US base in the UAE.
Iranian authorities have presented the attacks as retaliation for the reported US operation on Larak Island.
Meanwhile, images showed the remains of Shajareh-ye Tayyibe Primary School in Minab following a US-Israel strike. Iranian reports said the attack killed 185 people, including students and teachers, with most of the victims reportedly children from Hormozgan province.
However, the Iranian reports cited here do not establish Washington’s stated justification for the Larak Island operation. Confirmation of the US government’s account would require a separate statement or source from American authorities.
Iranian officials have continued to describe the reported strikes against US positions as a response to American military action.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said his country would respond firmly to any aggression and would not stand by while Iran came under attack.
