Abeokuta North, Ogun State – On this important occasion of Democracy Day, I extend my heartfelt greetings to the good people of Abeokuta North Local Government and all Nigerians. Today, we honour the resilience of our democratic journey—a journey that reflects our collective aspirations for a just, inclusive, and progressive society.
Democracy is more than a system of government; it is the embodiment of our shared values and the voice of the people. It guarantees our rights, fosters accountability, and empowers every citizen to contribute meaningfully to nation-building. As we commemorate the return to democratic rule, let us celebrate the milestones achieved and reflect on the responsibility that democracy entrusts to each of us.
In Abeokuta North, we have seen the strength of grassroots democracy in action. Community participation has been instrumental in shaping initiatives that address our most pressing needs—from infrastructure and education to healthcare and economic empowerment. These gains underscore the importance of inclusive governance and civic engagement.
Yet, our work is far from complete. I urge all residents to remain active participants in our democratic process. Let your voices be heard, your ideas be shared, and your involvement be consistent. It is through collective effort and shared responsibility that we can sustain and expand the progress we’ve made.
As we celebrate today, we must also pay tribute to the heroes of our democracy—men and women who sacrificed for the freedoms we now enjoy. Their legacy compels us to uphold the principles of good governance, justice, equity, and transparency at every level of leadership.
I also call on all stakeholders—traditional institutions, youth bodies, civil society, and the private sector—to join hands in strengthening our democratic culture. By working together, we can build a society where every citizen has a voice, and every community thrives.
On this Democracy Day, let us reaffirm our dedication to building a brighter, more inclusive future for Abeokuta North, Ogun State, and our great nation. May our shared commitment to democratic values continue to guide us toward lasting peace, unity, and development.
Happy Democracy Day!
Hon. Dr. Lanre Oyegbola Sodipo
Chairman, Abeokuta North Local Government
