Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has condemned an alleged gunmen attack on her family residence in Okehi Local Government Area, Kogi State, describing the assault as a deliberate attempt aimed at her. The incident, which occurred on the night of April 15, 2025, saw armed assailants mistakenly targeting her family home in Obeiba-Ihima, under the belief that she was present at the time.

In a statement, the Kogi Central Senator revealed that the attackers had vandalized windows of her grandfather’s house, but swift intervention from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and local residents helped to repel them before any significant damage could occur. No casualties were reported, and the attackers fled before the police could take further action.

Senator Links Attack to Political Stance Against Senate Leadership

“This attack was a direct response to my continued fight for truth and justice, especially regarding my public stance against Senate President Godswill Akpabio, whom I accused of sexual harassment. It is clear this was not a random act, but a targeted effort to intimidate me,” Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan said in the statement.

She went on to clarify that the attackers had mistakenly believed she was at the residence to oversee local projects. “Two days ago, my younger brother had brought contractors to my hometown in Ihima to inspect sites for some projects I secured for my constituents. The gunmen thought I was there, and in their ignorance, they launched this brazen attack,” she explained.

Call for Immediate Restoration of Security Detail

The senator called for the immediate reinstatement of her security detail, which was previously withdrawn, urging the Inspector General of Police to take swift action. “I urge the Inspector General of Police to act decisively and ensure that my security is restored. This kind of violence is unacceptable, and I will not be silenced by such intimidation,” Akpoti-Uduaghan added.

Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan has long been a vocal critic of several political figures, earning both admiration and controversy. The attack on her family home, however, has raised concerns about the safety of outspoken political figures in the country, with calls for increased protection for public officials who challenge the status quo.

Senator Stands Firm Amid Rising Threats

Despite the threat to her personal safety, the senator remains resolute in her commitment to advocating for the people of Kogi State. “I call on the public to stay calm and united in the face of these attempts to suppress my voice. My dedication to my constituents and to the truth will not waver in the face of violence or intimidation,” she asserted.

The incident has sparked widespread concern over the rising trend of politically motivated attacks in Nigeria. As the investigation continues, many are hoping that justice will be served and that such assaults will not be tolerated in the nation’s political landscape.
