Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has filed a N1 billion fundamental rights suit against the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), alleging an unlawful raid and search of his Abuja residence.

The suit, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/345/2026, was filed at the Federal High Court in Abuja. It seeks to void a search warrant issued by a magistrate court in the Federal Capital Territory on February 4.

The warrant authorised ICPC operatives to search the former governor’s home and seize items.

Through his counsel, Oluwole Iyamu, El-Rufai urged the court to declare the warrant invalid and nullify all actions taken under it. He also challenged the legality of the commission’s conduct during the operation.

The former governor has remained in ICPC custody since Wednesday, February 18, over ongoing investigations. The agency has not released details of the probe.

On Thursday, his media aide, Muyiwa Adekeye, disclosed on social media that operatives searched El-Rufai’s Aso Drive residence in Abuja.

In a related statement, his lawyer, Ubong Akpan, described the operation as unlawful and a breach of due process and fundamental rights.
