The Dredgers Association of Nigeria (DAN) has distanced itself from a media report alleging extortion and harassment of dredgers and tipper operators by Lagos State Commissioner for Waterfront Infrastructure Development, Hon. Ekundayo Alebiosu, and an individual identified as Cardozo.
In a disclaimer issued on October 23, 2026, the Association said the report, published by Linda Ikeji’s Blog and other online platforms, did not originate from its national leadership or any authorised organ of the organisation.
The publication, titled “Dredgers Association Appeals to Sanwo-Olu Over Alleged Extortion, Urges Governor to Call Alebiosu, Cardozo to Order,” alleged misconduct involving the commissioner and Cardozo.

However, DAN maintained that it neither authorised nor issued any petition or press statement accusing the two individuals of harassment, intimidation or extortion.
The Association also said it had no record of the reported incident involving the alleged impounding of trucks and a demand for ₦500,000, describing the claims as unrelated to any official communication from its leadership.
DAN Reaffirms Cordial Relationship With Lagos Government
Reaffirming its relationship with the Lagos State Government under Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Association described its engagement with the administration and the Ministry of Waterfront Infrastructure Development as cordial and collaborative.
DAN explained that discussions concerning dredging regulations and the interpretation of Supreme Court judgments on shoreline authority were being handled through appropriate institutional channels.
According to the Association, it has continued to engage relevant federal and state authorities through dialogue rather than media confrontations.
The organisation stressed that its approach remains focused on constructive engagement and resolving industry-related concerns through established procedures.
Association Urges Public to Disregard Report
DAN formally disclaimed the publication in its entirety and urged the public, the Lagos State Government, Commissioner Alebiosu and other stakeholders to disregard the report as an official statement issued on behalf of the Association.
It also expressed regret over any embarrassment, inconvenience or reputational damage the publication might have caused the Lagos State Government, the commissioner and other officials mentioned.
The Association reiterated its commitment to promoting lawful and sustainable dredging operations across Nigeria, while maintaining productive relationships with government institutions and other stakeholders in the sector.
The disclaimer was issued by the Association’s National President, Batare Akpomejero, and National Secretary, Richard Ntan.
