As a former presidential candidate and former Country President of the United Nations Positive Livelihood Award Centre (UN-POLAC), I, Prof. Funmilayo Adesanya-Davies, applaud President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his bold and visionary move to establish and deploy armed forest guards across Nigeria’s 1,129 forests.
This decisive action underscores his strong commitment to enhancing national security, preserving the environment, and creating opportunities for youth empowerment.
The deployment of armed forest guards will undoubtedly enhance the safety and security of our forests, allowing for the protection of biodiversity, prevention of deforestation, and promotion of sustainable forest management. Furthermore, this initiative will help to rid our forests of terrorists and bandits, who have long exploited these areas for nefarious activities.
I applaud the collaborative effort between the Federal and State Governments while planing towards implementing this project. The recruitment, training, and equipping of thousands of young Nigerians for this crucial national assignment will not only provide them with meaningful employment but also empower them to play a vital role in safeguarding our nation’s natural resources.
This initiative aligns with the objectives of the United Nations Positive Livelihood Award Centre (UN-POLAC), which I have had the firsthand privilege of leading as former president. Amb. Engr. Peter Ohagwa, the new organization’s president has also applauded the initiative. I believe that this endeavor will contribute significantly to the achievement of sustainable development goals in Nigeria.
I urge all Nigerians especially the youth to support this initiative and work together to ensure its success. By doing so, we can collectively promote a safer, more secure, and environmentally conscious nation, where our forests are protected, and our youth are empowered to thrive.
We look forward to the successful implementation of the initiative and pray it shall be success in Jesus mighty name. Happy Sunday!
Sincerely,
Prof. Funmilayo Adesanya-Davies
