Revised List Follows Earlier Controversy
The latest changes come amid controversy surrounding the composition of the campaign council initially announced in August.
President Tinubu had constituted the council ahead of the 2027 elections, naming himself as chairman and Vice President Kashim Shettima as vice chairman. APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda was also appointed a vice chairman.
Yari was named Director-General, but the initial appointments generated criticism and debate over the inclusion and exclusion of some political figures and party leaders.
The Presidency had previously rejected reports that the campaign council list had been withdrawn for a comprehensive review. Instead, it maintained that the list remained valid, although adjustments could be made where necessary.
Sunday Dare, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, explained the position during an appearance on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily.
Dare said the campaign structure was still being developed and that further appointments would be made to subcommittees that had yet to be constituted.
He explained that the existing list was not necessarily final, as additional political figures could be accommodated through the subcommittee structure.
The updated council is expected to coordinate the APC’s preparations and mobilisation efforts as the party works towards securing Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.
