…Celebrating women’s month with impactful initiatives

As part of its commitment to gender equality and financial inclusion, Wema Bank has unveiled a series of events to celebrate International Women’s Day (IWD) 2025, including cash rewards totaling N11 million for 131 women.

High-Profile IWD Event in Lagos

Themed “Accelerate Action,” this year’s IWD celebration will feature a high-profile event on March 11, 2025, in Lagos. The event will bring together prominent women across industries to discuss “Harnessing Innovation & Technology to Accelerate Financial Inclusion for Women.”

Recognizing Champions of Gender Equality

Beyond insightful discussions, Wema Bank will:

Spotlight beneficiaries of its Big Sister Project, a mentorship initiative.

Recognize male employees championing gender equality through the HeForShe Awards.

Launch initiatives aimed at empowering women professionally and financially.

N11M in Cash Rewards & Outreach Initiatives

As part of its month-long celebration, Wema Bank’s 5 for 5 Promo Season 4 will reward 131 female customers with cash prizes. Additionally, the Wema Women Network (WWN) outreach will engage young female students, offering mentorship and educational support.

Wema Bank’s Commitment to Women’s Empowerment

Wema Bank’s MD/CEO, Moruf Oseni, emphasized the importance of technology in closing the gender gap. He highlighted the bank’s ongoing efforts, including:

Providing N50 billion in funding to support women-led businesses.

Disbursing $2.4 million under the BRAVE Women project.

Supporting over 2 million women with skills development, business support, and market access programs between 2019 and 2023.

“As Nigeria’s oldest indigenous and innovation-driven bank, we remain deeply committed to empowering women, leveraging technology to drive sustainable impact,” Oseni stated.

A Legacy of Inclusion as Wema Bank Approaches 80 Years

As Wema Bank nears its 80th anniversary, its IWD 2025 celebration reaffirms its dedication to championing women’s inclusion and inspiring other institutions to follow suit.
