President Bola Tinubu is expected to kick off his 2027 re-election campaign in Kaduna State on October 24, according to the Director-General of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council, Abdulaziz Yari.
Yari disclosed this on Friday after meeting with the president at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, where they discussed preparations for the campaign and the proposed timetable for visits to states across the country.
The former Zamfara State governor and senator representing Zamfara West said he had approved the campaign schedule, adding that the council would hold its inaugural meeting on October 14 at the State House Banquet Hall in Abuja.

“The President asked for me to come and brief him on where we are, and to discuss the timetable for the state visits,” Yari told State House correspondents.
He added that the campaign would officially begin in Kaduna on October 24, expressing confidence that the planned activities would proceed as scheduled.
Following the Kaduna rally, the campaign team is expected to visit Port Harcourt, Rivers State, and Maiduguri, Borno State.
Yari said the complete schedule of state visits, which Tinubu had approved, would be made public after the campaign council’s inauguration.
Yari Questions Atiku, Obi’s Chances in 2027
Speaking about the prospects of former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi in the 2027 presidential election, Yari argued that neither opposition figure had demonstrated sufficient political strength across northern and southern Nigeria to defeat Tinubu.
He challenged the opposition to show its level of support in both regions, questioning whether Obi could claim substantial political influence in any northern state and whether opposition candidates could match the APC’s presence in the South.
According to Yari, securing support across the country’s major regions remains critical to winning a presidential election.
He referenced former President Muhammadu Buhari’s unsuccessful attempts to win the presidency before his eventual victory in 2015, arguing that the experience illustrated the challenges candidates face without broad national support.
Yari further claimed that Tinubu currently enjoyed political control in more than 10 states in each of the northern and southern regions.
“This is calculation, it is not rocket science,” he said.
Senator Defends Tinubu’s Economic Policies
The APC campaign council director-general also defended the president’s economic policies, insisting that the administration had made progress in addressing the economic conditions it inherited when it assumed office in 2023.
Yari maintained that the government was already implementing its promises rather than merely making commitments to Nigerians.
“We are not promising. We are doing it, and we are going to continue,” he said.
The planned Kaduna rally comes as political parties intensify preparations for the 2027 general elections.
Under the revised timetable of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), campaigns for the presidential and National Assembly elections began on August 19, 2026, while the presidential election is scheduled to hold on January 16, 2027.
