A Mexican mother has died after making a desperate attempt to protect her three-year-old son during a massive bee attack that left several people injured.
Oyuki Ramorez Burciaga, a 45-year-old magistrate from Zacatecas, Mexico, succumbed to complications nine days after she was stung hundreds of times while trying to save her young son.
The incident happened on May 3 outside the Guadalupe Sports Unit in central Mexico, where families had gathered for an athletic event.

A large swarm of bees suddenly descended on the crowd, sending people running for safety. At least 11 people were injured during the attack, with some emergency responders also reportedly affected.
Oyuki was with her three-year-old son, Matias, when the bees attacked. Witnesses said she immediately tried to shield the boy from the swarm.
In a desperate move, she removed her sweatshirt and wrapped it around Matias before getting him into the safety of her car. By doing so, she left herself exposed to the bees and was reportedly stung around 300 times.
She also attempted to protect her elderly father, who had become caught in the swarm.
Videos and images from the scene showed people fleeing in panic as the bees continued to attack. The scale of the incident also created difficulties for emergency personnel, who did not have specialised protective equipment for dealing with such a large swarm.
Oyuki was taken to hospital while still conscious, but her condition deteriorated over the following days.
Doctors reportedly battled severe inflammation, allergic reactions and complications caused by the enormous amount of venom in her body. She was believed to have suffered anaphylactic shock before eventually dying after nine days in intensive care.
Oyuki had worked as a judge for seven months before her death.
Zacatecas Governor David Monreal Avila expressed condolences to her family, paying tribute to the mother following news of her death.
Father and daughter also killed in bee attack
Oyuki’s death came months after another deadly bee attack claimed the lives of a Brazilian woman and her father.
Silvana da Fatima Braganca da Luz, 54, was driving along a rural dirt road in Vacaria, in the north-east of Brazil’s Rio Grande do Sul state, when her vehicle struck a beehive.
The impact triggered a swarm that attacked Silvana, who lost control of the vehicle and crashed.
A neighbour who heard the commotion alerted Silvana’s parents, prompting her 79-year-old father, Raul Portela da Luz, to rush to the scene in an attempt to rescue her.
Raul was also attacked by the bees and suffered hundreds of stings. He was taken to hospital in critical condition but died the following day.
Silvana later died from injuries sustained during the attack.
Her 72-year-old mother was also stung repeatedly but survived after receiving medical treatment and was later discharged from hospital.
Firefighters were the first emergency responders to reach the crash site, although their response was delayed because their station was almost 40 miles away.
A fire service spokesman said the victims had suffered hundreds of stings and confirmed that Silvana was still alive when rescuers arrived, meaning she did not die immediately when the vehicle overturned.
