The deceased’s body has since been deposited at a mortuary for a post-mortem examination to help establish the cause of death.
The case is also being processed for transfer to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, where further investigations are expected to determine how the fire started and the circumstances that led to the woman’s death.
The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued on Sunday.
Babaseyi said the suspect was in police custody in connection with the suspected arson, adding that the investigation would continue as the authorities work to establish the facts surrounding the incident.
The Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, Bode Ojajuni, reportedly assured residents that the case would be handled diligently and professionally in accordance with the law.
Ojajuni also reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property, stressing the importance of ensuring that allegations involving serious crimes receive appropriate investigative attention.

As investigations continue, the circumstances surrounding the fire and the woman’s death remain subject to police inquiries. The post-mortem examination and further investigations are expected to provide additional information that could help clarify the incident.
The arrest does not, in itself, establish guilt, and the suspect remains subject to the legal process as the police work to determine what happened.
