The Kano State chapter of the New Nigeria Peoples Party has called on President Bola Tinubu to remove the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission over the scheduled date for the 2027 presidential election.

The party made the appeal on Saturday in a statement issued in Kano State and signed by its Publicity Secretary, Ibrahim Karaye.

According to the statement, the presidential election is slated for February 20, 2027, a date the party noted coincides with the Ramadan fasting period observed by Muslims.

The party described the timing as unacceptable, arguing that it could discourage Muslim voter participation across Nigeria.

The NNPP further alleged that the decision reflects religious bias on the part of the electoral body’s leadership.

The party therefore urged the President to swiftly replace the INEC chairman, insisting that such action would promote fairness and rebuild public confidence in the electoral process.

It added that appointing a more credible replacement would help ensure justice and inclusiveness in future elections.
