Introduction of “Light Cashless” by inDrive

inDrive, a top global ride-hailing platform operating across nine African countries, has launched “Light Cashless” in Nigeria, an innovative payment feature aimed at improving safety and convenience for both riders and drivers. This new solution enables drivers to share their preferred bank details within the app, allowing passengers to easily copy and paste the information for direct bank transfers, bypassing the need for traditional payment gateways.

InDrive’s First in Nigeria

With the introduction of “Light Cashless,” inDrive becomes the first ride-hailing platform in Nigeria to adopt this model, further establishing bank transfers as a reliable and widely embraced payment option in the country. The feature is now accessible through the latest inDrive app update and is being gradually introduced across seven major cities.

Benefits of “Light Cashless”

This new feature offers several benefits, including enhanced security by minimizing the risks linked to carrying cash. It also provides greater convenience, allowing passengers to make payments with just a few taps, while offering drivers more financial flexibility as payments are directly deposited into their bank accounts without delays or transaction fees. Moreover, direct bank transfers promote better payment transparency, enabling both passengers and drivers to easily track transactions within their banking apps, reducing disputes and ensuring clear financial records.

Alignment with inDrive’s Mission

The introduction of “Light Cashless” is in line with inDrive’s mission to challenge unfair practices and build a more equitable, flexible ride-hailing ecosystem. The platform remains dedicated to user-driven innovation, consistently empowering both drivers and passengers with more control over their ride-hailing experience.

Statement from inDrive Nigeria Representative

“This new feature is a game-changer for the Nigerian market, where bank transfers are already a trusted and widely used form of payment,” said Timothy, Country Representative at inDrive Nigeria. “By eliminating reliance on cash while avoiding the complexities of integrated payment gateways, we are providing a simple yet effective solution that enhances safety, convenience, and financial efficiency for all users.”

Nationwide Expansion

The “Light Cashless” feature is now available in seven major Nigerian cities and will expand across the country. Users are encouraged to update their inDrive app to take advantage of this new functionality.
