A new vista in professional certification and workforce development has opened in Nigeria as Goodmus Learning Centre has commenced the rollout of the globally recognized Global Competency Assessment (GCA) certifications.

Managing Director of the centre, Dr. Adekunle Badmus, disclosed that the educational firm has secured licensing to conduct the internationally benchmarked certification and has successfully completed its first round of assessments in Lagos.

He further revealed that the GCA examinations will now be conducted on a monthly basis at the centre, creating a consistent pathway for Nigerian professionals to access globally recognized competence validation.

Describing the milestone as a strategic leap for Nigeria’s human capital development, Badmus said the GCA framework is designed to evaluate and validate real-world competencies in line with global standards.

“GCA is about measuring what truly matters in today’s workforce, practical skills, applied knowledge, and performance. It is not just certification; it is validation of global competence,” he said.

The maiden edition of the certification exercise in Lagos was supervised by UK-based international education experts, lending further credibility to the process and reinforcing its global alignment.

The Global Competency Assessment (GCA) is positioned as a universal benchmark for professional excellence, offering structured evaluation across multiple sectors including business, technology, education, security, and entrepreneurship.

The certification framework emphasizes three core pillars: global alignment with international best practices, competency-based evaluation, and rigorous, data-driven assessment.

According to Badmus, the examination is specifically structured to assess individuals strictly within their areas of competence, ensuring that certifications reflect actual capability rather than theoretical knowledge alone.

Industry observers note that the introduction of GCA certifications into Nigeria’s education and professional landscape could significantly enhance workforce competitiveness, particularly as employers increasingly demand verifiable skills over traditional credentials.

For successful candidates, the certification comes with far-reaching benefits. Beyond credibility, it provides access to opportunities across 32 countries, positioning certified professionals for global mobility, employment, and cross-border collaborations.

“Employers need clarity on what candidates can actually do, not just what they studied. GCA provides that clarity by setting a clear, trusted standard,” Badmus added.

The Goodmus Learning Centre, known for its focus on global education pathways and international training opportunities, is positioning itself as a key hub for competency-based certification in West Africa. The successful completion of the first GCA assessment cohort in Lagos signals what the centre describes as the beginning of a broader expansion across the country.

Beyond individual certification, GCA is also being promoted as a strategic tool for institutions seeking to audit workforce capacity and align their teams with global performance benchmarks. Organizations can deploy the assessment framework to identify skills gaps, streamline hiring, and build high-performing teams equipped for international competitiveness.

As global labour markets continue to evolve, the emphasis on measurable competence is gaining traction, with certification systems like GCA bridging the gap between education and employability.

“Competence is universal,” Badmus noted. “What GCA does is ensure that your competence is recognized anywhere in the world.”

He added that the institute is open to partnership and collaboration with other like minded organisations towards assisting Nigerians to get international recognition for their skills and enjoy global opportunities.
