Turkish giants Galatasaray have applauded Victor Osimhen after his sensational performance in Nigeria’s 2-0 victory over Rwanda in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Osimhen, currently on loan from Napoli, delivered a match-winning display at the Amahoro Stadium in Kigali, netting both goals to secure a crucial win for the Super Eagles on Friday night.
Osimhen Shines in Super Eagles Return
Returning to Nigeria’s lineup for the qualifiers, the 26-year-old forward wasted no time making his presence felt. He broke the deadlock in the 11th minute, finishing off Ademola Lookman’s precise cross at the back post.
He doubled Nigeria’s lead in first-half stoppage time, pressing Rwanda’s Thierry Manzi into an error before executing a clinical chip over goalkeeper Fabrice Ntwari.
His brace extends his stunning form, following a hat-trick against Antalyaspor and goals against Alanyaspor and Kasimpasa before the international break. He has now scored in four consecutive matches, netting eight goals for club and country in that period.
Galatasaray’s Tribute to Osimhen
Galatasaray swiftly recognized their in-form striker’s heroics, taking to social media to celebrate his latest achievement.
“Congratulations to our player Victor Osimhen who scored 2 goals against Rwanda in Group C of the 2026 World Cup CAF Qualifiers, leading his country Nigeria to victory! Congratulations, @victorosimhen9,” the club posted.
Osimhen responded with gratitude, acknowledging the message with a series of love emojis.
Historic Feat for Osimhen
Beyond securing three points for Nigeria, Osimhen also carved his name deeper into Super Eagles history.
His two goals took his international tally to 25 goals, surpassing Segun Odegbami to become Nigeria’s second all-time top scorer. Only the legendary Rashidi Yekini remains ahead with 37 goals.
Nigeria’s Qualification Hopes
Nigeria now sits fourth in Group C with six points, trailing leaders South Africa by four after Bafana Bafana’s 2-0 win over Lesotho.
Osimhen will have another chance to increase his goal tally when Nigeria faces Zimbabwe in Uyo on Tuesday, March 25.
