Former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose has declared that he will never leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), even amid ongoing defections. He said he would rather quit politics than join another party, including the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Fayose made this statement on Monday night, June 9, after visiting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at his Ikoyi residence in Lagos. He said his visit was strictly personal and aimed at offering support to the president during difficult times.
“Let me first of all clear this. Ayo Fayose will not move from PDP to any political party — not even APC. I am 65 years old this year. It is within the rights of those choosing to move. But nothing will make me leave the PDP. The moment I’m no longer in the PDP, I would rather leave party politics,” he stated in a video shared by Channels Television on X, @channelstv.
Fayose expressed concern over the internal crisis plaguing the PDP. He warned that the party could become irrelevant if leaders fail to act quickly.
“The PDP is in serious trouble. If nothing is done, the party will become a carcass,” he said.

Meanwhile, Fayose also advised Abia State Governor Alex Otti to remain in the Labour Party (LP). He gave the advice during a recent visit to Abia, where he praised Otti’s performance over the past two years.
“You have done well. Stay focused and ignore the wave of defections,” Fayose said.
Fayose’s firm stance comes as political realignments continue nationwide. His message highlights the importance of consistency and integrity in Nigeria’s evolving political landscape.
