Yusuf Buhari, the only son of the late President Muhammadu Buhari, has declared his intention to contest for a seat in the House of Representatives in the 2027 general elections.
This was disclosed in a letter personally signed by Yusuf and obtained by Channels Television on Monday.
Dated April 3, 2026, the letter is titled: “Expression of Interest to Contest for the Seat of House of Representatives, Sandamu/Daura/Mai’Adua Federal Constituency.”
Party sources indicated that Yusuf’s candidacy has strong backing, describing him as an “anointed candidate” with the endorsement of Katsina State Governor, Dikko Radda.
In the letter, Yusuf stated his intention to run under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), noting that his decision followed extensive consultations.
He expressed his commitment to providing quality leadership, enhancing infrastructure, and promoting human development within the constituency. He also appealed for support to realize his ambition.
Yusuf’s declaration comes barely a week after APC stakeholders in Sandamu Local Government Area of Katsina State endorsed him as their preferred candidate for the Daura/Sandamu/Mai’Adua Federal Constituency.
The endorsement was reached during a high-level meeting at the Sandamu Local Government Secretariat, attended by elected officials and political appointees from across the constituency.
Speaking at the meeting, Council Chairman Usman Na-lado described the move as a collective decision by stakeholders, citing Yusuf’s perceived capacity and acceptance within the party.
Na-lado also noted that the meeting reaffirmed support for President Bola Tinubu and Governor Radda as the APC’s flag bearers for the presidency and governorship, respectively, in the 2027 elections.
