A former media aide to late ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, Bashir Ahmad, has suggested that former presidential candidates Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso could leave the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for another party ahead of the 2027 elections.
Ahmad said the scenario may unfold if former Vice President Atiku Abubakar decides to join the NDC. According to him, Obi and Kwankwaso might opt out rather than face Atiku in a primary contest.
In a post on X, Ahmad stated that both politicians may be unwilling to compete directly with Atiku for the party’s ticket.
He wrote: “What happens if Atiku Abubakar joins the NDC? Peter Obi and Sen. Rabiu Kwankwaso may simply move to another party, as they may not be able to face him in a primary contest.”
