Amid Rising Insecurity, Bloodshed and Kidnappings, former female Presidential Candidate, (UN-POLAC) Peace Consul, distinguished academic, clergywoman, and respected Yoruba Princess, Professor Funmilayo Adesanya-Davies, has expressed profound grief, sorrow, and outrage over the worsening insecurity, incessant kidnappings, killings, abductions, and destruction of lives across Yoruba land and Nigeria at large.
Speaking with deep emotion following the tragic killing of a school teacher during the recent abduction attack in Oyo State, Professor Adesanya-Davies described the situation as “a collective tragedy, a national disgrace, and a painful wound in the heart of Yoruba civilization.”
The revered scholar and advocate for peace stated that the horrifying reports of armed kidnappers invading schools, terrorizing communities, abducting innocent students and teachers, and murdering harmless citizens in broad daylight have become unbearable and unacceptable to all people of conscience. According to her, Yoruba land — once celebrated globally for peace, learning, intellectualism, commerce, courage, hospitality, and strong cultural values — is now gradually becoming a theatre of fear, tears, violence, and uncertainty.
Professor Adesanya-Davies lamented that farmers can no longer safely go to their farms, travelers now journey in fear, rural communities sleep with one eye open, schools are no longer secure sanctuaries for learning, and parents daily live in anxiety over the safety of their children.
She said:
“It is heartbreaking and painful beyond words that Yoruba land, the cradle of education, civilization, integrity, and progress in Nigeria, is today bleeding under the weight of kidnappings, killings, banditry, terrorism, and organized criminality. Our people are mourning. Mothers are crying. Families are shattered. Communities are living under siege.”
The Yoruba Princess described the slain teacher in Oyo State as a symbol of the suffering of innocent Nigerians and a painful reminder of the urgent need to rebuild Nigeria’s collapsing security architecture. She noted with concern that educational institutions have increasingly become soft targets for criminals, thereby threatening the future of the younger generation and the educational foundation of the nation.
“When teachers are murdered and students are abducted, the soul of a nation is under attack. When schools become battlefields, then the future itself is endangered. This is not merely an attack on individuals; it is an attack on humanity, civilization, and the destiny of our children.”
Professor Adesanya-Davies therefore called on the Federal Government of Nigeria, South-West Governors, lawmakers, security agencies, traditional rulers, religious leaders, and all stakeholders to rise above political sentiments and immediately take decisive steps to stop the bloodshed across the country.
She urged the governments of the South-West region to strengthen local security networks, improve intelligence gathering, support community policing initiatives, and ensure that forests, highways, schools, and farming communities are no longer left vulnerable to armed criminals and kidnappers.
The renowned peace advocate further stressed the urgent need for state policing, restructuring, regional cooperation, and stronger collaboration between local communities and security agencies. According to her, security can no longer remain centralized while local communities continue to suffer repeated attacks.
She also appealed to traditional rulers, youth organizations, community development associations, and faith-based groups to intensify vigilance and work together for the protection of lives and properties.
Professor Adesanya-Davies warned that continued silence, negligence, and political complacency in the face of insecurity may further deepen public frustration, economic hardship, displacement, fear, and social instability in the region.
She added:
“No society can prosper under an atmosphere of fear and bloodshed. Investors will flee. Farmers will abandon their lands. Education will collapse. Families will live in perpetual trauma. The government must act swiftly before the situation deteriorates further.”
The respected cleric lamented the psychological trauma and emotional devastation many families are presently facing due to kidnappings, ransom demands, killings, and disappearances of loved ones. She emphasized that beyond statistics and headlines are real human beings whose dreams, futures, and destinies are being violently destroyed.
Quoting from the Holy Scriptures, she declared:
“The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life.” — John 10:10
And also:
“When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn.” — Proverbs 29:2.
Professor Adesanya-Davies further called for national repentance, moral revival, justice, and renewed fear of God among leaders and citizens alike. She stated that corruption, injustice, greed, compromise, and failure of leadership have contributed significantly to the present insecurity threatening the nation.
According to her:
“Nigeria needs not only military strength but Godly moral strength. We need justice. We need truth. We need righteous leadership. We need compassion. We need national healing. Without justice and accountability, peace will remain elusive.”
The Yoruba Princess also appealed to the international community, human rights organizations, and peace-building institutions to pay closer attention to the growing humanitarian and security crisis affecting parts of Nigeria.
She stressed that innocent citizens deserve protection regardless of ethnicity, religion, or political affiliation, adding that every human life remains sacred before God.
Professor Adesanya-Davies expressed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family of the slain teacher, the Government and people of Oyo State, the Ogbomoso community, affected schools, parents, and all families who have lost loved ones to violence and insecurity across the South-West and Nigeria as a whole.
She prayed for divine comfort upon grieving families, healing for survivors, safe return of abducted victims, wisdom for leaders, and peace across the land.
In her final remarks, she passionately declared:
“Enough is enough. Yoruba land must not become a land of widows, orphans, fear, and endless mourning. Our people deserve peace. Our children deserve safety. Our teachers deserve honor and protection.
Nigeria must rise above politics and defend the sanctity of human life. Together, with courage, justice, unity, and the help of God, we shall overcome this season of darkness.”
The recent attacks in Oyo State reportedly involved armed abductors invading schools in Oriire Local Government Area, resulting in the killing of a teacher and the abduction of students and school staff, further heightening fears over insecurity in the region. (punchng.com)
