Adesanya-Davies Calls for Renewed National Resolve Against Insecurity and Kidnapping

Former Presidential Candidate, peace advocate, clergywoman and public affairs commentator, Bishop Professor Funmilayo Adesanya-Davies, has expressed profound sorrow over the death of retired Major General Rabe Abubakar, former Director of Defence Information, who reportedly died while in captivity after being abducted in Katsina State.
Describing the development as painful, heartbreaking and deeply concerning, Professor Adesanya-Davies extended heartfelt condolences to the family of the late military officer, the Government and people of Katsina State, members of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, and all Nigerians mourning this tragic loss.
According to reports, the retired senior military officer died while being held by bandits despite rescue efforts undertaken by government authorities and security agencies. Official statements indicated that his death occurred during captivity after days of sustained attempts to secure his release.
Professor Adesanya-Davies stated:
“I mourn the passing of retired Major General Rabe Abubakar, a man who dedicated significant years of service to the defence and security of our nation. His death in captivity is painful and a sobering reminder that insecurity remains a challenge requiring urgent and sustained action.”
She noted that the incident has once again brought national attention to the human cost of kidnapping, criminal violence and insecurity affecting families and communities across Nigeria.
“This tragedy goes beyond one family. It speaks to the fears and realities experienced by countless Nigerians who continue to live under the threat of abduction, violence and uncertainty. Every life lost weakens the social fabric of our nation.”
Professor Adesanya-Davies called for intensified collaboration among federal and state authorities, security institutions, local communities, traditional institutions and civil society organisations to strengthen prevention, intelligence gathering, lawful enforcement and victim support systems.
She further urged renewed investment in community protection initiatives, improved welfare for security personnel and stronger mechanisms to secure vulnerable communities.
While sympathising with the bereaved family, she encouraged Nigerians not to surrender hope but to continue supporting lawful efforts aimed at restoring peace and public safety.
“This difficult moment should strengthen our collective determination to protect lives, defend human dignity and build a nation where citizens can travel, live and work without fear.”
Professor Adesanya-Davies prayed for divine comfort for the family of the deceased and healing for all victims of insecurity across the country.
She concluded by calling for national unity and a renewed commitment to peace, justice and the preservation of human life.
