Prince Adewole Adebayo, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate in the 2023 presidential election, has made a bold promise to ensure that President Bola Tinubu will be the last “bad” leader in Nigeria by 2027. Adebayo sharply criticised Nigerians’ tendency to complain about poor leadership without taking decisive action to bring about change.

Transforming Nigerian Politics

Adebayo pointed out that many Nigerians have voiced frustrations with leaders like Goodluck Jonathan, Muhammadu Buhari, and now Tinubu, all citing a lack of direction. However, he stressed that complaints alone will not change the country. Nigerians need to take responsibility by electing better leaders who can drive real transformation.

Adebayo believes the solution lies in a complete overhaul of the nation’s politics. “Politicians always blame the president,” he said. “It was ‘anybody but Jonathan,’ then ‘Buhari is the problem,’ and now it’s ‘Tinubu is the problem.’ My mission is to make sure that Tinubu is the last of the bad presidents.”

He believes transforming politics is key to changing the nation. Nigerians must embrace ethical and legitimate politics, which will attract capable individuals and reduce the influence of money. “Once we change the system, it doesn’t matter if Tinubu resigns tomorrow,” Adebayo said. “What we need is a change in how politics is done. And for that, we must first transform our political parties.”

Adebayo highlighted significant reforms within the SDP. He described the party as an ethical alternative to the current system. “The leadership of the SDP is focused on making politics more accessible and accountable to Nigerians,” he stated, referring to the party’s commitment to uplifting the masses and addressing political ills.

He encouraged Nigerians to support the SDP as the platform for change. Adebayo emphasized that the party’s manifesto and constitution aim to address the people’s struggles. “We want Nigerians to adopt the SDP as a solution to the flaws in our political system,” he concluded.
