Anthony Kila, the Pro-Chancellor of Michael and Cecilia Ibru University (MCIU), has for years been publicly described as a professor and as a “Jean Monnet Professor of Strategy and Development.” However, available records indicate that he was never awarded a professorial rank by a recognised academic institution.
Kila, who was appointed Pro-Chancellor of MCIU in August 2025, has appeared in several academic and professional profiles describing him as a jurist, professor, scholar, author, professional and public commentator with extensive academic and international experience.
The Pro-Chancellor heads the governing council of a Nigerian university. The council is responsible for providing broad oversight of the institution, including matters relating to administration, policy implementation, finances and university assets.

Kila has featured in interviews with various Nigerian newspapers and television stations, where he has frequently been addressed as “Professor.”
Some publications have described him as a professor of political science, while others have referred to him as the “Jean Monnet Professor of Strategy and Development.”
However, there is no publicly available evidence showing that a recognised academic institution formally awarded Kila a professorial title.
Questions have also been raised over some of the information contained in his profiles on the MCIU and CIAPS websites, particularly claims relating to academic qualifications and positions attributed to him.
The discrepancies have prompted questions about the accuracy of some of the academic credentials and professional positions presented in his publicly available profiles.
