A group of Enugu indigenes living in Abuja has endorsed Sir Chinyeaka Ohaa as its preferred candidate for the 2027 Enugu State governorship election.
The group, operating under the name NDC Enugu State Abuja Base Supporters for Chinyeaka Ohaa, announced its support during a visit to Ohaa at his residence in Abuja on Tuesday.
Speaking on behalf of the group, its coordinator, Chukwubuikem Ifeanyi, said Enugu indigenes in the Federal Capital Territory were increasingly concerned about developments in the state and had decided to support what he described as a “rescue mission.”

According to Ifeanyi, the group wants a government that places the welfare and development of residents at the centre of its policies.
He said Ohaa’s experience in the civil service and his record in public administration convinced the group that he could provide the type of leadership it was seeking for the state.
Ifeanyi listed taxation, insecurity and youth unemployment among the major concerns of the group.
He also expressed reservations about the alleged mobilisation of young people for political activities without providing adequate opportunities for employment, skills development and economic empowerment.
“The Lion Building belongs to all of us. We will decide who leads us. What Enugu needs now is a leader, not a boss. A servant leader who will transform lives, not punish the people,” Ifeanyi said.
He added that the group planned to take its mobilisation campaign to Enugu communities across the FCT in an effort to build wider support for Ohaa ahead of the election.
Responding, Ohaa expressed appreciation for the endorsement and said the support demonstrated the growing interest of young Enugu indigenes in the state’s political future.
The governorship aspirant pledged to bring the principles of honesty, discipline and effective performance that guided his public service career into governance if elected.
“I have embraced evolved ideas. You will see an evolved Enugu State under my administration,” Ohaa said.
Ohaa also identified human development as one of the key areas he would prioritise, highlighting youth empowerment, employment generation, skills acquisition and security.
The group further pledged to mobilise Enugu indigenes resident in the FCT to participate actively in the political process while advocating fairness, inclusiveness and effective representation ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
