The National Publicity Secretary of the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), Baba Mohammed Tukur, has urged the President Bola Tinubu-led administration to be realistic about the country’s economic situation rather than making promises it may not be able to fulfil.
Tukur said the government should acknowledge that some of its policies have not produced the expected results and be transparent with Nigerians about the challenges confronting the economy.
Speaking on Arise Television on Thursday, the ACF spokesman criticised the administration’s economic approach, describing it as a “voodoo economy.”

He said the situation had become particularly difficult for farmers, who often spend more on production than they eventually earn from selling their produce.
“You spend N50,000 on farm preparation, farming and everything, and then you take it to the market and it sells for N40,000. What kind of economy is that, maybe voodoo economic you may say,” Tukur said.
He called on the government to openly admit where its policies have fallen short and focus on measures that can produce tangible improvements.
“What I want to see from this administration is an open admission that things are not going the way they were intended, or rather that they did not do the work very well, but now there is a clear result,” he said.
Tukur also advised the administration to avoid making overly ambitious promises to Nigerians, noting that no government can achieve perfection.
“But please don’t promise heaven and earth because we know that it can’t be delivered. The thing about perfection is that it’s never attainable,” he added.
He urged the government to set realistic targets and clearly communicate what it can achieve within a defined period, rather than attempting to completely overhaul the economy at once.
“So be modest and tell us what you can do within a few months. We don’t expect you to reinvent the wheel, but how the spokes fit in the wheel,” Tukur said.
