Human rights activist Omoyele Sowore has attacked former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, over his claim that he could end corruption in Nigeria within one month as president.

Amaechi, a former Rivers State governor, made the comment during a discussion on X Space. He insisted that corruption could be eliminated quickly under his leadership.

Sowore Questions Amaechi’s Record

In a video shared by SaharaReporters, Sowore called the statement unrealistic. He noted that Amaechi had held top political offices for over two decades without delivering significant anti-corruption results.

“Amaechi said he would end corruption in one month. He has been Speaker for eight years, Governor for another eight, and Minister for eight. That is 24 years in total. If you deduct 24 from his age, the result is clear,” Sowore said.

He added, “A fool at 40 is a fool forever,” implying that long-serving politicians should have proven their ability to fight corruption earlier.

Sowore urged Nigerian youths to participate actively in politics. He argued that the older political class often makes empty promises while the younger generation risks wasting valuable time.

“We have provided alternatives. We are not bound to one option because time is not on our side. You might be young today, but not forever,” he warned.

The activist also lamented the toll of poor governance on young Nigerians. “Some people in their twenties look far older due to the system’s failures,” he said.

Rotimi Amaechi served as Rivers State governor from 2007 to 2015 and as Nigeria’s Minister of Transportation from 2015 to 2023. Despite his long tenure, critics like Sowore argue that his track record does not support his claim to deliver rapid anti-corruption reforms.
