The governorship race in Osun State is gathering momentum as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO), continues to attract growing public attention ahead of the 2026 election. Recent electoral projections have placed him in a strong position, with a poll forecasting a 65 per cent chance of victory if current voting trends are sustained.

Popularly known as AMBO, Oyebamiji has built his campaign around experience, competence and inclusive governance. He has consistently maintained that the future of Osun depends on a government that brings together professionals, community leaders, youths, women and other critical stakeholders to drive sustainable development.

Oyebamiji’s background in public administration and governance has shaped his political philosophy. Over the years, he has served in strategic capacities within the Osun State Government, earning recognition for his contributions to policy implementation, administrative reforms and public service delivery.

His experience spans several government institutions where he played significant roles in planning, coordination and the execution of development programmes. Supporters believe this exposure has provided him with a practical understanding of the challenges confronting the state and the solutions required to address them.

Throughout his campaign, Oyebamiji has repeatedly stressed that governing Osun cannot be the responsibility of one individual. According to him, meaningful progress can only be achieved through collective leadership, competent appointments and the active participation of citizens across all sectors.

He has pledged to build an administration that belongs to every resident of Osun, irrespective of political affiliation, religion or ethnic background. The APC candidate believes that governance should promote unity, fairness and equal opportunities for all communities.

A central theme of his campaign is the need to recruit capable hands into government. Oyebamiji has argued that many individuals occupying public offices today lack the competence, vision and commitment required to deliver quality governance.

According to him, appointments in his administration will be based on merit, integrity and proven capacity rather than political patronage. He insists that only qualified and dedicated individuals should be entrusted with responsibilities that directly affect the welfare of the people.

The APC standard bearer has also promised to strengthen education, healthcare, agriculture, infrastructure, youth empowerment and job creation. He says these sectors will receive greater attention to stimulate economic growth and improve living standards across the state.

His economic blueprint focuses on encouraging private investment, supporting small and medium scale enterprises, expanding industrial opportunities and creating an enabling environment for businesses to thrive in Osun.

Political observers believe Oyebamiji’s message has resonated with many voters seeking a fresh direction. His emphasis on competence, accountability and inclusive leadership has continued to shape public discourse as campaigns intensify across the state.

The latest electoral poll suggesting a 65 per cent forecast in favour of Oyebamiji has further energised his supporters. While opinion polls are not election results, analysts say they often reflect prevailing public sentiment and can influence campaign strategies.

Despite the projections, political analysts caution that elections remain unpredictable. They note that voter turnout, campaign mobilisation, grassroots engagement and the credibility of the electoral process will ultimately determine the final outcome.

Until then, the Osun 2026 governorship contest remains a story of hope, keen political competition and the enduring strength of democratic participation. The election is expected to provide another opportunity for the people of the state to determine their political future through the ballot.

Ultimately, democracy is not decided by campaign rallies, endorsements or projections. It is decided by votes. If Oyebamiji succeeds in convincing a majority of Osun voters that his vision offers a better future built on competence, inclusive governance and shared prosperity, he could emerge as the next governor of Osun State.
