Social critic Reno Omokri has urged former presidential candidate Peter Obi to confine his divisive behavior to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Omokri criticized Obi for reacting negatively to Nigeria’s challenges instead of focusing on constructive engagement. His comments followed Obi’s assertion that President Bola Tinubu has failed to deliver on his campaign promise of adequate electricity for Nigerians.
Responding to the recent national grid collapse, Obi had called on Tinubu to remain in Nigeria and address the country’s problems rather than traveling abroad.
Omokri, however, pointed out that major power outages occur worldwide, citing the United States, where several grid failures have left millions without electricity.
On Facebook, he wrote:
“As you read this, the United States is experiencing blackouts across multiple states as its power grid nears collapse. These things happen in every country. It is not unique to Nigeria. It is unfortunate that Peter Obi, who last year falsely claimed Tanzania had solved its power problem, is once again de-marketing Nigeria over a recent power grid collapse.
If Peter Obi had all the solutions, why did he not establish a single Independent Power Project in Anambra during his eight-year tenure as governor, unlike President Tinubu in Lagos?
Nigeria is progressing in the power sector, and we do not need to be undermined by someone who spent eight years as governor without building a single school, nursery, primary, secondary, or university.
Under Tinubu, Nigeria achieved a record peak power generation of 5,801.84MW and a maximum daily energy output of 128,370.75MWh, the highest in the nation’s electricity history.
Peter Obi should get a life instead of waiting for bad news to amplify it. He should limit his divisive tendencies to the ADC, whose cohesion he destabilized the moment he joined, according to party spokesman Bolaji Abdullahi.”
