The recently concluded MarkHack 4.0 conference has emerged as a key event in Nigeria’s media and marketing space. It brought together industry leaders, startups, investors, and experts, creating a platform for collaboration, innovation, and knowledge sharing poised to influence the future of media, marketing, and technology in Nigeria and across Africa.

Industry Impact and Robust Participation

This year’s event witnessed remarkable participation, with over 150 applications from Nigeria and other African countries, showcasing a vibrant ecosystem eager to develop innovative solutions. The conference provided a platform for startups to showcase transformative innovations, connect with investors, and gain visibility on a global scale. This broad participation reflects Nigeria’s rising reputation as a hub for innovation and underscores the country’s strategic importance in Africa’s tech ecosystem.

Thought Leadership and Industry Insights

A highlight of the conference was the keynote delivered by Kayode Oladapo, CEO of West Africa at Godrej Consumer Products Limited, titled, “Experience-Led Growth: Building Consumer Connections that Scale.” Oladapo explored how technological evolution is fueling consumer engagement and shared actionable insights on brand innovation amid a rapidly changing marketplace. His insights emphasized the importance of personalized and immersive brand experiences, which are critical for startups and enterprises seeking to scale in Africa’s diverse markets.

Building momentum, Jide Sipe, Group Head of Brand Transformation & Digital Marketing at the Bank of Industry, delivered a thought-provoking session on digital marketing role in financial inclusion and empowering small businesses.

Innovation in Consumer Experience and Retail

Oge Maduagwu, Head of Marketing and Communications at Samsung Electronics West Africa, led the first plenary session on “Bridging the Gap: Strategies for Seamless Phygital Retail Experiences.” She emphasized that the retail experience must evolve into a cohesive, unified journey—merging offline and online channels—where customers receive consistent service, messaging, and brand engagement. She cited emerging trends like the “click-and-collect” model, where consumers shop online and pick up items in-store, as particularly effective for the African retail environment.

Maduagwu also showcased Samsung’s immersive demo spaces, where consumers can engage with innovative features like advanced low-light photography, elevating retail from mere transactions to memorable brand experiences. Maduagwu also emphasized the importance of responsible data management and consumer privacy, referencing global standards like GDPR and Nigeria’s NDPR. Her insights underscored the evolving nature of retail—place and experience matter, especially in Africa’s diverse markets.

Startup Showcase and Emerging Tech Trends

Industry experts like Sam Okolie of 7Up shared how digital trends influence beverage marketing—blending online engagement with physical activations to deepen brand loyalty. Ukah of Jumia detailed the complexities of operating in Nigeria and South Africa, emphasizing that success relies on a hybrid approach—integrating online and offline strategies. He discussed how Jumia analyzes pricing, consumer preferences, and supply chain logistics to deliver tailored experiences, noting that understanding these dynamics is crucial for maintaining competitiveness in complex markets.

Building the Future of Innovation in Nigeria

MarkHack 4.0 has proven to be more than a conference—it is a catalyst for fostering innovation, nurturing startups, and shaping Nigeria’s role as a leader in marketing technology and consumer experience solutions. By providing a space for entrepreneurs, industry leaders, and investors to connect and collaborate, the event is fueling the growth of revolutionary ideas that will impact Nigeria and the continent at large.

As Nigeria continues to advance its digital and technological capabilities, MarkHack 4.0 remains at the forefront, inspiring a new generation of innovators committed to transforming the industry and delivering impactful solutions that resonate across Africa.
