The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has disowned a fake publication circulating online that claims to announce governorship candidates for the 2027 elections in six states.

The Commission clarified that the purported announcement, which mentions Zamfara, Gombe, Delta, Plateau, Yobe and Kano states, did not originate from INEC.

In a statement shared on its official X account, the electoral body described the document as fraudulent and urged Nigerians to disregard it and avoid sharing it.

INEC stated that the claims suggesting it had issued a special announcement on governorship candidates in the six states were false.

The Commission advised members of the public to verify electoral information through its official communication channels, including its website, verified social media accounts and news portal, rather than relying on unverified online publications.

It also provided contact details, including its call centre, for Nigerians seeking further information or clarification.

INEC reaffirmed its commitment to providing accurate electoral information and urged the public to remain vigilant against misinformation, particularly as preparations for the 2027 general elections continue.

The warning comes amid reports of controversy surrounding the governorship candidate lists, with claims that some candidates were omitted from the published records. Nigerians have been advised to rely on official INEC announcements for accurate information about the electoral process.
