The federal government has confirmed that all group-stage bonuses for the Super Eagles at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations have been released and are expected to appear in the players’ domiciliary accounts within hours.

Minister of State for Finance, Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite, made the announcement amid reports that the national team was considering boycotting training sessions and might refuse to travel to Marrakesh for their quarter-final clash against Algeria.

In a post on her official X handle, Uzoka-Anite outlined the administrative measures taken to resolve concerns over the payment of match bonuses, noting that the matter was addressed through coordinated action by the Federal Government and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

“The Federal Government and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) have successfully streamlined processes to ensure faster and more predictable disbursements in line with international best practice,” the minister said.

She explained that all bonuses earned during the group stage had been processed through the necessary regulatory procedures. “All group-stage bonuses were fully released and have cleared the required regulatory stages,” Uzoka-Anite stated.

The minister added that a fast-track conversion process had been implemented to meet the players’ preferred currency denomination. “We have introduced a fast-track process to convert funds into foreign currency, respecting the players’ preferences,” she said.

According to Uzoka-Anite, the final stage of payment is already in progress. “Transfers to domiciliary accounts are currently underway. Players can expect these funds to reflect starting today (Thursday) or tomorrow (Friday),” she added.

She emphasized that the government remains committed to the welfare and morale of the national team as they advance into the knockout phase. “Our focus is entirely on supporting the team’s welfare so they can sustain their momentum in the knockout rounds,” Uzoka-Anite said.

The minister also reiterated that off-field issues would not distract the players from their performance. “We move forward with one goal: Bringing the trophy home!” she concluded.

The update is expected to ease concerns about the team’s preparations ahead of their quarter-final fixture as the Super Eagles continue their AFCON 2025 campaign.
