Supported by the German Federal Foreign Office, the scholarship aims to help outstanding graduates continue their education at accredited German universities by covering living expenses and offering additional financial support throughout their studies.

The application deadline has not yet been announced, giving interested candidates time to prepare the required documents and secure admission to eligible universities.

What the DAAD Master’s Scholarship Covers

Successful applicants will receive a monthly stipend of €992 to support their living expenses while studying in Germany.

The scholarship package also includes health, accident and personal liability insurance, a travel allowance, and an annual study grant of €460.

Depending on individual circumstances, recipients may also qualify for additional benefits, including a monthly rent subsidy, financial support for accompanying family members, disability-related assistance, and funding for environmentally friendly travel or carbon offset costs.

Language Training Available for Awardees

DAAD also provides language support to help students prepare for life and study in Germany.

Awardees may receive funding for an online language course after receiving their scholarship offer. Where necessary, DAAD can also sponsor a German language course lasting between two and six months before the academic programme begins.

Students enrolled in German-taught programmes are required to participate in the language course. The scholarship also reimburses the cost of recognised language proficiency examinations such as TestDaF or DSH.

However, applicants should note that the scholarship does not cover university tuition fees.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must have completed a Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent qualification before the scholarship begins. In most cases, the degree should have been obtained within the last six years.

Candidates are also expected to achieve a minimum average of 80% or its equivalent in their undergraduate studies.

Applicants are responsible for applying separately for admission to their preferred German university and must receive an admission offer before the scholarship funding starts.

Those who have lived in Germany for more than 15 months before the application deadline are generally not eligible for the programme.

Language Requirements

The required language certificate depends on the language used in the chosen degree programme.

Applicants enrolling in German-taught courses may need certificates such as TestDaF, DSH, Goethe-Zertifikat, DSD or telc Deutsch.

Those applying for English-language programmes can submit recognised qualifications including IELTS, TOEFL, PTE Academic, TOEIC or Cambridge English certificates.

How Applicants Will Be Selected

DAAD said applications will be evaluated based on academic performance, the quality of the proposed study plan, motivation to study in Germany, language proficiency, relevant work experience where applicable, and extracurricular activities.

The selection committee will also consider equal opportunity factors during the evaluation process.

Required Documents

Applicants will need to provide academic certificates, transcripts, proof of language proficiency and any additional documents required for their country or chosen university.

Application Deadline

DAAD has not announced a closing date for the scholarship application. Interested candidates are advised to begin preparing their documents early and monitor the official DAAD scholarship portal for updates on the application process.
