Former Presidential Candidate, renowned clergywoman, peace advocate, and distinguished academic, Professor Funmilayo Adesanya-Davies, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointing Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
Describing the appointment as “visionary, progressive, and inspiring,” Professor Adesanya-Davies said the emergence of a young and accomplished scholar to head one of Nigeria’s most strategic educational institutions signals hope for the future of education, innovation, and youth inclusion in governance.
According to her, the appointment of the 39-year-old professor demonstrates that competence, excellence, intellectual capacity, and integrity are gradually being recognized in national leadership and administration.
She stated:
“I sincerely commend President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for this bold and commendable decision. Appointing a vibrant and accomplished scholar like Professor Segun Aina to lead JAMB is a strong indication that Nigeria is beginning to appreciate merit, innovation, and youthful excellence.”
Professor Adesanya-Davies noted that education remains the bedrock of national transformation and sustainable development, stressing that Nigeria needs technologically driven intellectuals and reform-minded administrators to reposition the nation’s institutions for global competitiveness.
She further observed that the educational sector requires visionary leadership capable of strengthening transparency, credibility, digital innovation, and efficiency within the nation’s admission and examination systems.
The former presidential candidate also praised the outgoing JAMB Registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, for his remarkable contributions and reforms over the years, while expressing confidence that the incoming registrar would build on the existing achievements.
Speaking further, she said:
“Young Nigerians must be encouraged to believe that excellence and hard work can still open doors of leadership and national service. This appointment sends a powerful message to millions of Nigerian youths that the future belongs to those who prepare themselves diligently.”
Quoting from the Holy Scriptures, she referenced Proverbs 22:29:
“Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men.”
She also cited Daniel 1:17:
“As for these four children, God gave them knowledge and skill in all learning and wisdom.”
Bishop Professor Adesanya-Davies called on Nigerians to support reforms and policies that promote meritocracy, youth empowerment, educational advancement, and national unity.
She prayed that God would grant the new JAMB Registrar wisdom, strength, courage, and divine direction as he assumes office, adding that Nigeria’s educational system must continue to evolve through integrity, innovation, and visionary leadership.
The appointment of Professor Segun Aina, a respected Computer Engineering scholar, has been widely applauded by education stakeholders and youth groups across the country as a positive development for the nation’s academic future.
