The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of repeating the same political missteps that led to the downfall of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Reacting to comments by APC National Chairman, Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda, who claimed that “key ADC figures” would soon join the ruling party, the ADC said defections would not save the APC from defeat in the 2027 general elections.

In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC said the APC’s recent scramble for new members across political parties shows the ruling party’s growing fear of rejection by ordinary Nigerians.

“There is nothing new in the game that the APC is playing. It is the same ruinous game that the PDP played at the height of its powers. The APC will also learn the bitter lesson that real democratic power lies with the people and not a few power merchants,” the statement read.

Abdullahi added that the APC’s unpopularity had reached a point where even mass defections would not prevent its defeat.

“Even if all the governors in Nigeria defected to the APC, the party still cannot be saved. Nigerians are tired of the hardship and failed promises that have marked this administration,” he said.

The ADC further described the wave of defections into the APC as “a desperate attempt by the political elite to protect their interests at the expense of suffering Nigerians.”

“The truth remains that the APC has become the most hated party in Nigeria. No number of defections can change that reality,” the statement added.

The party also mocked the APC chairman’s claim about unnamed “key ADC members” planning to join the ruling party, urging him to make their identities public.

“We wonder if the APC has run out of governors to seduce that it now resorts to shadowy claims about ADC members. If these individuals are so ‘key’, let the chairman mention their names,” the ADC challenged.
