The Students’ Union of the University of Ibadan Students’ Union has confirmed the release of Miss Fumilayo, a 300-level Law student of the University of Ibadan who was kidnapped alongside several other people.
In a statement issued on Monday, the union announced that it received confirmation in the early hours of the day that the student had been freed.
The statement, signed by Students’ Union President Temidayo S. Adeboye and General Secretary Joshua O. Shontan, said the student’s release was verified by the appropriate authorities and representatives of the organisation involved.
“We are delighted to inform the University community that our student, Miss Fumilayo, a 300-level student in the Faculty of Law, who was abducted alongside other individuals, has been safely released,” the statement said.
According to the union, the victims are currently undergoing the necessary post-release processes before returning to their various destinations.
It added that the law student is expected back on campus once all required arrangements have been completed.
“The released individuals are currently undergoing the necessary post-release procedures and will return to their respective destinations as arrangements are concluded. We have been assured that our student will safely return to the University community soon,” the statement added.
The Students’ Union expressed gratitude to security agencies, the management of the University of Ibadan, the leadership of the Scripture Union, and other stakeholders whose efforts helped secure the student’s freedom.
It also appreciated members of the university community for their prayers, patience, solidarity, and support during the period of her captivity.
“The Students’ Union sincerely appreciates the security agencies, University Management, the leadership of the Scripture Union, and everyone whose dedication contributed to this successful outcome.
“We also thank members of the University community for their prayers, patience, solidarity, and unwavering support throughout this period. Your compassion and unity have been truly encouraging,” the statement noted.
While welcoming the student’s release, the union offered prayers for the full recovery and well-being of everyone affected by the incident.
“As we celebrate this welcome development, we remain grateful to God and pray for the complete healing, restoration, and well-being of everyone affected,” the statement concluded.
