A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dele Momodu, has advised President Bola Tinubu to make the achievements of his administration the centrepiece of his 2027 re-election campaign, arguing that Nigerians will judge the President by his record in office rather than political messaging.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Monday, the publisher of Ovation magazine said public opinion was driven by governance and results, not personal feelings toward the President.

According to Momodu, Tinubu’s chances in the next presidential election would largely depend on what his administration has accomplished.

“The 2027 election will not be difficult for Tinubu if he can show the records of his performance. Nobody hates him personally. Nobody wants to pick him out because they just don’t like him. It is about performance. Present your scorecards,” he said.

He also called on members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to focus less on attacking critics and more on highlighting what the government has achieved.

“So the people running around spreading hellfire, calm down and spread that energy on showing the performance of APC,” Momodu added.

The media entrepreneur further criticised the APC for frequently attributing Nigeria’s economic and governance problems to previous administrations, describing the approach as counterproductive.

“What we see is APC abusing itself and its predecessors, saying they inherited a useless government and economy. I have never seen a place where a party destroys its own predecessors like APC,” he said.

While acknowledging the argument that the current administration inherited significant challenges, Momodu questioned the impact of the government’s policies after more than three years in office.

“Now, let’s assume President Tinubu inherited a bad government. What has he done to change the direction of his predecessor and change the lives of the people?” he asked.

Momodu also commented on the long-running political differences between former President Olusegun Obasanjo and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar. His remarks followed Obasanjo’s recent statement that selecting Atiku as his running mate was the biggest mistake of his political career.

Reacting to the comment, Momodu claimed that Obasanjo remained opposed to Atiku’s ambition of becoming Nigeria’s president.

“I believe Chief Obasanjo does not want Atiku’s presidential dream to materialise,” he said.

His comments come as political parties and key figures begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 general election, with campaigns and alliances expected to gather momentum in the coming months.
