Veteran journalist and union member, Seun Odunlami, has announced his candidacy for the position of Internal Auditor in the upcoming Ogun State Council elections of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).

Odunlami made his intentions public on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, immediately after collecting his nomination form at the NUJ Secretariat in Abeokuta, officially entering the race for the council’s executive positions.

A strong advocate for accountability and ethical journalism, Odunlami explained that his decision to contest is driven by a commitment to enhance financial transparency and reinforce members’ trust in the union’s management processes.

“I am stepping forward to serve because I believe Ogun NUJ deserves leadership that is financially responsible, transparent, and upholds the highest ethical standards,” he stated.

Highlighting the importance of the Internal Auditor role, Odunlami said it is essential for safeguarding members’ interests and maintaining the union’s financial integrity.

If elected, he pledged to implement regular financial audits, release timely reports, and ensure that all expenditures are fully documented and justified.

He also promised to work closely with chapel leaders to foster financial literacy and promote prudent fiscal management throughout the union’s structures.

“My candidacy is focused on reform, transparency, and a renewed sense of purpose. Ogun NUJ has the potential to set a benchmark for financial discipline and accountability,” Odunlami added.

The announcement has begun to generate interest among journalists who view his bid as a call for reform-oriented leadership within the Ogun NUJ.

The forthcoming elections are expected to feature strong contenders across various positions, with observers anticipating a competitive and issue-driven campaign.

Seun Odunlami’s campaign team, Rebuild for Accountability, is led by Prince Rasaq Ayinla as Chairman, Comrade Modupe Salabiu as Secretary, Comrade Folake Ade Adeniji as Treasurer, and Comrade Ibikunle as Financial Secretary.
