The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has asked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to begin preparing his exit plan, stressing that Nigerians will not renew his mandate in the 2027 general elections.
The call came on Friday during a press briefing at the PDP state secretariat in Yola, Adamawa State. The Organising Secretary of the Adamawa chapter, Hamza Madagali, said Nigerians had lost patience with the present administration, describing it as insensitive and disconnected from the realities on the ground.
According to him, the All Progressives Congress (APC) government has failed to provide solutions to the worsening economic hardship faced by citizens. He accused the ruling party of lacking both vision and direction.
“Ordinary Nigerians are struggling daily to survive, yet the government continues to pursue policies that make life harder. By 2027, the people will show this administration the way out,” Madagali declared.
PDP Boasts of Growing Unity Ahead of 2027
Madagali also used the opportunity to highlight what he described as renewed unity within the PDP. He pointed to the party’s recently concluded ward congresses in Adamawa, which he said were peaceful and successful, as evidence of internal strength.
He argued that the outcome of the congresses proved the party was overcoming past divisions and preparing to reclaim power at the federal level.
“If you examine the membership of the National Convention committees, you will notice a balance that reflects our determination to work together. Nigerians have seen the difference between genuine leadership and deceit. They cannot afford to gamble with their future again. The only way forward is to restore the PDP at the centre,” he said.
The PDP chieftain further insisted that the 2027 elections would mark a turning point in Nigeria’s political history, as citizens would no longer be swayed by propaganda or empty promises.
APC Fires Back, Defends Tinubu
However, the ruling All Progressives Congress dismissed the PDP’s claims, insisting that President Tinubu would secure a second term. APC chieftain, Seye Oladejo, argued that recent defections from the PDP to the APC across different states proved that the opposition was weakening.
“I agree that Tinubu should prepare to hand over, but he will be handing over to himself after the 2027 elections. PDP has become a party that exists only on paper,” Oladejo said in a statement.
He accused the PDP of inconsistency, particularly in the way it handled zoning arrangements for elective offices. According to him, such confusion makes the party unfit to govern Nigeria again.
“In any case, the PDP is already finished. This is a party that first zoned its tickets against the spirit of the 1999 Constitution, only to later claim it had made them open. How can Nigerians take such a party seriously? Talk is cheap, and by 2027, voters will deliver the final verdict,” he added.
Battle Lines Drawn for 2027
The war of words between both parties reflects the intensifying political climate as Nigeria heads toward another general election. While the PDP continues to portray itself as the alternative to what it calls APC’s failed leadership, the ruling party insists it is consolidating power and delivering on its promises.
Political observers believe that the 2027 elections will be fiercely contested, especially as economic challenges, insecurity, and governance issues remain top concerns for Nigerians.
For now, both parties appear determined to dominate the political space, with the PDP focusing on rebuilding its structures and the APC showcasing Tinubu’s ongoing reforms.
