Daniel Dubois delivered a dominant performance to defeat Fabio Wardley by second-round technical knockout in their heavyweight rematch at the O2 Arena in London on Saturday, October 17, retaining his World Boxing Organization (WBO) heavyweight title.
The British champion made an explosive start, knocking Wardley down just 17 seconds into the opening round with a powerful right hand. Wardley managed to beat the count, but he struggled to cope with Dubois’ relentless attacks throughout the contest.
The fight ended at two minutes and 21 seconds of the second round after Wardley’s trainer, Ben Davison, threw in the towel to prevent his fighter from taking further punishment. Referee Steve Gray stopped the contest, confirming Dubois’ victory.

The result marked a significant contrast to their first meeting in May, when Dubois had to overcome two knockdowns before stopping Wardley in the 11th round to claim the WBO heavyweight championship.
Dubois Takes Control From the Opening Bell
Dubois showed his intentions early, applying pressure and landing heavy punches before Wardley could establish his rhythm.
The opening knockdown put Wardley under immediate pressure, forcing him to concentrate on survival rather than launching the sustained attacks that had made their first encounter so competitive.
Although Wardley recovered and continued fighting, Dubois maintained his aggression and repeatedly connected with powerful shots. Wardley was pinned against the ropes late in the opening round, but the bell gave him a brief opportunity to recover.
The champion resumed his assault in the second round, leaving Wardley struggling to respond effectively. With the challenger absorbing unanswered punches, his corner decided to end the contest.
The stoppage demonstrated Dubois’ ability to impose his power and dictate the pace against a recognised heavyweight opponent.
A Different Outcome From Their First Fight
The rematch offered Dubois an opportunity to reinforce his superiority after their dramatic first encounter five months earlier.
In their May meeting, Wardley knocked Dubois down twice during the early rounds and appeared capable of causing another major upset. However, Dubois recovered, gradually took control and eventually secured an 11th-round stoppage.
This time, the champion avoided a prolonged battle by attacking from the opening bell and putting Wardley on the defensive almost immediately.
The victory further strengthened Dubois’ position among the leading names in heavyweight boxing. It also highlighted the importance of his early aggression and punching power in a division where a single clean shot can change the course of a fight.
Wardley, meanwhile, suffered the second defeat of his professional career. Despite the disappointing result, the 31-year-old has previously demonstrated considerable resilience and will now have to assess his next move following the loss.
Filip Hrgovic Eyes a Fight With Dubois
Attention has already begun shifting towards Dubois’ next challenge, with IBF heavyweight champion Filip Hrgovic expressing interest in facing the London-born boxer.
Hrgovic was present at the O2 Arena and publicly challenged Dubois to a potential fight that could put both heavyweight titles on the line.
Dubois indicated that he wants to regain the IBF championship he previously held before losing it to Oleksandr Usyk in July 2025.
A potential clash with Hrgovic could therefore provide Dubois with an opportunity to move closer to unifying the heavyweight division, although the fight has not been confirmed.
For now, Dubois can celebrate a convincing title defence after ending his rivalry with Wardley in emphatic fashion.
His second-round victory sends a clear message to the heavyweight division that he remains a serious contender for further championship success.
